Grosse Isle – Homérique

12.99$20.00$

Formed by Irish immigrant Fiachra O’Regan and Quebecers Sophie Lavoie and François-Félix Roy, the group Grosse Isle plays a mix of traditional Irish and Quebec music and songs, all modernized by original compositions and songs.

Grosse Isle’s album, entitled Homérique, celebrates epic characters from Ireland and here. It is an album in three languages (French, English and even Irish!). The songs tell legendary tales, including that of the White Lady of Montmorency Falls, the Irish pirate Gráinne Mhaol, the Métis Louis Riel and the Acadian Étienne Hébert. It is an album with rich colours, with a panoply of instruments typical of traditional Quebec and Irish music. We can appreciate the very Quebecois playing of fiddler Sophie Lavoie, a native of Lac-St-Jean, as well as the famous bagpipes and the magical whistle of the Irishman in the group, Fiachra O’Regan. The album ranges from the most catchy songs, with the typical Quebec “foot-tapping”, to the most tragic laments, such as songs recounting the tragic death in the construction sites in Quebec and during the Great Famine in Ireland.
