These are two recent compositions, each paying homage to the legendary québécois weightlifters Victor Delamarre and Louis Cyr. Victor was from Lac-Saint-Jean. His idol was Louis Cyr, named as the strongest man in the world. Despite his height of 5’5”, Victor set many records, which include defeating Louis Cyr at a weightlifting contest in 1914. The first jig was composed by Sophie Lavoie (Grosse Isle’s fiddle player) and the second adapted from Jean-Claude Mirandette’s Reel Louis Cyr.
Single on Grosse Isle‘s album Homérique, due for release on March 07, 2025.
